Vale youngsters can catch World Cup fever on new football course
Children in the Vale of Glamorgan can get in the mood for this summer’s World Cup by signing up for a continental-style football course which is taking place at the Buttrills Playing Fields in Barry.
Boys and girls aged five to nine can have fun improving their skills by enrolling on the 10-week course which is being held every Saturday morning, 10am – 11am, starting 8th May.
Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Dragon Sport team, the sessions will all be skills-based, with a focus on the 4v4 style of coaching which is so popular in Europe. Taking inspiration from the Dutch methods that have created countless stars such as Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder, the four-a-side matches let players have more touches of the ball and develops their technique.
Football coach Tom Spurrier will be leading the 10-week course, which costs £20, with a 50% discount for each sibling. Spaces are limited and you must book in advance by calling Julie Morgan on 01446 704748.
Dragon Sport is a Sport Wales initiative funded by the National Lottery which is designed to offer Primary School pupils fun and enjoyable sporting opportunities in eight key sports – tennis, rugby, football, netball, hockey, golf, athletics and cricket. The flagship scheme also aims to recruit and train volunteers who wish to assist, set up or run clubs.
