CARMARTHEN CHILDREN LIVE OUT OLYMPIC DREAMS

BUDDING Olympic athletes enjoyed a taste of the future when the Olympic roadshow rolled into Carmarthen.

The double-decker 2012 Olympic Games tour bus came to Guildhall Square as part of its journey around the UK.

.

Pupils from St Mary’s Roman Catholic  school in Union Street met two of its

inspirational passengers — former long jump gold medal winner Lyn Davies, and current 400-metre star Tim Benjamin.

Dragon Sport— the flagship initiative of the Sports Council for Wales which is funded by the National Lottery — also took part in the promotion, running displays involving local youngsters.

Physical education co-ordinator at St Mary’s, Ian Mansfield, said the school had been actively involved in the Dragon Sports initiative for four years.

“Last November the school took part in a mini Olympics and won,” he said. “They went on to represent Carmarthen in the South West finals and came fourth overall, which was a great achievement.

“It was because of this success they were invited to go along to the Olympic bus and

everyone had a great time.”

The tour kicked off in London to mark the first anniversary of the capital landing the

Olympics.

It will travel throughout the country giving advice on everything from becoming

involved as a volunteer to buying tickets.
