ENTER THE DRAGON IN CEREDIGION !

Liaising closely with schools and community sports clubs, Dragon Sport is making a dramatic impact on sports participation in Ceredigion by encouraging children to become involved in a variety of organised sporting activities.

Bryn Evans, Dragon Sport Co-ordinator for Ceredigion said “The scheme intends to broaden the sporting interests of children who already take part in sport and to involve children who currently lack such opportunities outside of  their school PE lessons”.

Dragon Sport has introduced children to coaching, skill development and appropriate competition using versions of the adult game, modified to meet their needs and skill levels.

A portfolio of eight modified sports is used in the scheme. The eight Dragon Sports are rugby, athletics, cricket, football, hockey, netball, tennis and golf.  Whilst the primary focus of Dragon Sport is improving sports provision for 7 - 11 year olds across Wales, Dragon Sport also focuses on recruiting parents and other volunteers as helpers to support the development of after school and community sports clubs.

In Ceredigion all 76 primary schools in the county have joined the scheme, which means that ultimately every child aged between 7-11 years old has the opportunity to participate in the wide range of sports.

Due to the attainment of the goal of enrolling each and every Ceredigion Primary School to the scheme, Bryn would now like to direct his attention towards the development of junior sections within the community. If your club or organisation would like more information on Dragon Sport, then contact Bryn on 01970 633 695 or visit the new web-site for more information and resources at www.dragonsport.co.uk

If you are aged between 7-11 years old and want to join your local dragon sport club then speak to your teachers at school for more information.

DRAGON Sport is a Sports Council for Wales initiative funded by the National Lottery, designed to offer 7-11 year olds fun and enjoyable sporting opportunities.
