BIG LONDON RED BUS IN ABER
A GROUP of Borth schoolchildren saw their numbers come in last week as the National Lottery bus rolled into town. Pupils from Ysgol Craig y Wylfa took part in fun-filled afternoon on Aberystwyth promenade as part of the National Lotterys 10th birthday celebrations.
The vintage London bus was touring the length of Wales spreading the word of the Lottery and the several charities it has funded over the past decade. The children were greeted by Draig the Dragon who is the mascot for the Dragon Sport initiative which helps fund sports clubs and bought equipment for primary schools all across Wales.
The idea behind getting the kids out and about with Draig was to encourage everyone in the local community to improve their health and get more active.
Not only were the Craig y Wylfa pupils treated to a day out on the promenade with a variety of sporting activities, but the whole thing was filmed by an ITV camera crew.
Ceredigion Dragon Sport co-ordinator, Bryn Evans said: Sport is an ideal way to spend time together as a family and getting involved sets a great example to children. Our primary focus is getting more of our schoolchildren active but this cant happen without the support of parents and teachers.
Members of the public were also invited on to the bus to see how Lottery money has gone back in to the community and how groups can go about applying for grants.
The pupils from Craig y Wylfa appeared on 1TV on Sunday in a programme entitled Wales on the Move.
