Name :
Elizabeth (Libby) Vernon
Volunteer 26 years old

What do you do ?
Dragon Sport Volunteer.

What are your roles & responsibilities?
My role is to assist members of Swansea’s Sports Development team in planning and delivering fun sport sessions to children and young people in the community.  I believe that as a volunteer, my responsibilities are to ensure that the session is enjoyable and safe, the concept of fair play is promoted, and above all else I am a fun and friendly assistant, so if I can encourage others to have fun too – then I believe that’s a big part of volunteering.

How did you first get involved in Dragon Sport ?
I had graduated from University and had no immediate plans for work, so I enlisted as a Dragon Sport Volunteer, as I love sport and wanted to get involved in coaching.

Where do you volunteer for Dragon Sport ?
Various places - in the past I have been asked be to attend events within primary schools, leisure centres or parks.  Some have been during term-time, for example, after school clubs, some in the holidays – as part of the Sports Development teams summer programme.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering in Dragon Sport ?
I thoroughly enjoy the social environment that Dragon Sport creates, as well as the opportunity to get involved in the many sports on offer

In what ways has Dragon Sport helped you to develop?
Attending Dragon Sport events has definitely helped me gain confidence and has introduced me to some wonderful people. I have received a great deal of support, guidance, and training, all of which has helped launch what I hope is a successful career in Sports Development.

What are your future aspirations with Dragon Sport or volunteering in sport?
I will definitely be continuing my voluntary work with Dragon Sport, as I believe it plays an important role in providing children with exciting experiences and opportunities. For these same reasons I am working towards employment within the organisation so that I can become apart of the development team and bring new idea’s to Swansea.
That said, I still believe that volunteering is a good thing to keep going, so even if I am lucky enough to get a job in Sports Development, I still hope to be delivering voluntary football sessions somewhere in Swansea !
