How did you start playing sport? I used to play games back in school, but it was Dad who started me playing golf. It was him who encouraged me to play golf and arranged membership for me at the local golf club.
What sports did you play when you were a child? A bit of everything to say the truth. Football - I played in the boys team at school, and also netball, hockey, tennis and anything else I could find time to play!
What do you enjoy about sport? I love to compete in sport and feel fortunate to play golf for a living. It's especially great to be out in the open air daily - a fabulous career which I can enjoy..
How do you keep fit and healthy? Apart from all the walking I do for my golf (it's quite a lot !), I do a lot of fitness training, mainly through the winter to leave me free to play in the summer. Otherwise I enjoy eating and drinking healthy products - lots of fruit and water, the type of food and drink you need in any sport, but especially in golf where you are constantly under the sun.
Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career? My father definitely – he encouraged me to play so many games when I was young and now he is alongside me as a caddy - I wouldn't have reached my present standard without his suppport, and also my mother and brother. They are all hugely supportive.
Your parents can have an enormous influence on you when a child, offering so much support and encouragement, driving you everywhere to competitions and helping you to practice. Dad has been an excellent advisor to me and I would recommend other parents to be just as supportive of their children.
How important is Dragon sport in your opinion? What effect will the scheme have on Sport in Wales? Anything which persuades children to participate in a variety of games when young is praiseworthy. .
Especially a sport such as golf, which wasn't played by many children when in school. It's great therefore that many schools now include golf among their choice of sport via the Dragon Sport scheme. We can hope that this will increase the number of pupils who are committed to sport generally and we hope to see far more golfing heroes in Wales in future.
And a big thank you to Dragon Sport for appointing me as a Sporting Hero for Dragon Sport as well as Becky Morgan and Louise Davis – come on girls, Take part !!! |
