How did you start playing sport? As a young girl, I took part in many classes out of school hours, including swimming, gymnastics, karate, dancing etc. I therefore have many happy memories of being in primary school, playing rounders on Friday afternoons !… At the time, being that we were so young, our teacher allowed us to play with tennis rackets so we had a greater chance of hitting the ball ! I was also delighted when I could play football with a group of friends - although only rarely did the boys allow the girls to join in !
What sports did you play when you were a child? Rugby, Swimming, Football and Basketball.
What do you enjoy about sport? The element of fun ! Particularly after sitting in a class or office all day, it's brilliant to be out in the open air, and a good way to enjoy yourself with your friends as well.
How do you keep fit and healthy? I try and do a variety of exercises every week… Variety - So that I don't get fed up doing the same things. Usually, I like to run, swim; go to the gym... and one of my favourite things is to take part in Aerobics or Dance classes - once more, it is always delightful to do things in company with your friends !
Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career? I'm not sure if they have had a direct influence on me but Manchester United have certainly made quite an impact on my life. All my family support them, and I follow them consistently – I have travelled to Old Trafford to watch them since I was 11 years old. I recall the first game I saw there - sitting amongst the visitors ‘fans’ ! Certainly, the club as a ‘unit’ has had an effect on me, and obviously, people such as Fergie, Cantona and Giggs stand out. I believe I would be a very different person if I hadn't spent all these years following the club... although some might say that would have been better for me !!
How important do you think Dragon Sport is? What impact do you think it will have on Welsh sport ? Schemes such as Dragon Sport play a very large role in our communities by helping and encouraging young children to take part in various activities. Not only does Dragon Sport offer recreation for children, but it's also a brilliant way of showing it's posible to keep fit - and enjoy yourself - with friends. |
