How did you start playing sport?
I started playing at the age of five. My father used to take me to Pencoed rugby club where I played in the mini and under 8s side and then progressed to the under 16s. I then started playing for my school and Ive been playing ever since.

What sports did you play when you were a child?
My favourite sport has always been rugby but I tried to get involved in every sport in school from cricket to football to athletics. I think its important to take advantage of all the opportunities you have in school to find out where your strengths lie and what you enjoy. I obviously enjoyed playing rugby!

What do you enjoy about sport?
I always really enjoyed the competitive aspect of sport. I remember playing against my friends at school and wanting to improve my skills and win every time! Playing sport also gives you the opportunity to mix with different people and make new friends.

How do you keep fit and healthy?
Its important to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water. My regular training sessions on the field, rugby matches and gym sessions help me keep fit.

Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career?
It has to be my parents. My father was a captain of Maesteg rugby team and he used to take me along to their training sessions twice a week when I was young. I used to practice my kicking technique with him and the other players and I think that that was a great base to build from. My idols were Welshman Ieuan Evans and Australias David Campese. I loved watching wingers play because theyre always so fast like Shane Williams is today.

Why is it important for parents to get involved?
I wouldnt be where I am today if it wasnt for my parents. They have supported me throughout my career and still do today. Parents can help encourage their children to try a variety of sports from an early age and help get them away from the TV screens and out into the fresh air.

How important is Dragon Sport and what impact do you think it will have on Welsh sport?
Its crucial! It helps provide children with the basic skills of so many sports which they can build upon later in life. My father taught me the basic techniques of kicking a rugby ball which I have perfected throughout my career. The children here today could be the stars of the future and schemes like Dragon Sport can help them achieve their goals as I and my team mates are doing today.
