Name : Nicola Szehofner
Sport : Netball Youth International

Represented Wales U17, U19 & U21 Squads, being the youngest to play for U17s at 14 years old. Recently represented Wales at the World Youth Netball Championships in, Florida.

How did you start playing sport?
My mum and dad encouraged me to play as much sport as I could when I was younger, and so I did!

What sports did you play when you were a child?
I started swimming when I was 3, soon followed by Ju Jitsu, athletics, netball, basketball, American football and more. I was 7 when I started to play netball for Deeside netball club.

What do you enjoy about sport?
I love the fact that through sport you can meet a lot of friends. Sport also keeps you fit and healthy, which is good !

How do you keep fit and healthy?
I like to go to the gym for a workout and also enjoy swimming. But the thing that works for me in my training schedule is SAQ (speed, agility, quickness) work. It helps me to apply my speed work on a netball court so that I can be as explosive as possible.

Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career?
Probably my mum! She encouraged me to take part in sport from a very young age and has been there to support me every step of the way ever since !

How important do you think Dragon Sport is? What impact do you think it will have on Welsh sport?
Dragon Sport is an excellent opportunity for youngsters to try a wide variety of sports. The more sports you try, the more likely you are to find one that you really like, and who knows where that could take you the world is your oyster!!!
