How did you start playing sport? I started playing all sports at primary school. I did not focus on golf until I was 12 when my Granddad introduced my sister and I to the game. I enjoyed playing lots of sport and just being active, but golf was my favourite.
What sports did you play when you were a child? I played lots of sport when I was a child like football, badminton, swimming, tennis, lacrosse and Golf. There are so many opportunities for children to take part in sport these days in schools and clubs, especially through great schemes like Dragon Sport and tri-golf. You dont necessarily have to be brilliant at sport to take part either, as schemes like this cater for everyone.
What do you enjoy about sport? I love meeting people and making new friends, but also learning new skills and just having fun. You cant beat it. It doesnt really matter what level you play sport, it is so much fun and the more you play, the more fun it is.
How do you keep fit and healthy? I do all of my fitness training in the winter and try to keep my fitness at a good level during the season. It is helped by the fact that we have a fitness trailer that follows us around the many courses we play on the American tour so I can stay active, even when I am not playing. It is so important to stay fit, healthy and active, and the best way to do it is to play lots of sport and eat plenty of fruit and drink lots of water!
Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career? My family, who have supported me throughout, without putting pressure on me. They just encouraged me to play as much as I could and have lots of fun. I also used to love watching Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo play when I was growing up. But there are some great lady golfers out there at the moment, like Wales Becky Brewerton and of course players like Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie, who are great for the game and are playing great golf.. |
