Power message:
"It must be a fantastic feeling for parents - watching their children develop their skills and progessing.

Name : Simon Jones
Sport : Cricket

Simon is a Glamorgan and England fast bowler.

How did you start playing sport?
I started just like most children today in primary school. My Headmaster, Mr Thomas, got me involved in sport from an early age and I played just about every sport under the sun athletics, rugby, football, cricket, the lot! My school was across the road from my parents house so I would often stay behind after all the other children had gone home to practice my skills.

What sports did you play when you were a child?
Everything! Rugby, cricket, football, athletics even rounders! Anything that would get me out of the house and into the fresh air!

What do you enjoy about sport?
Its fun! I really believe that sport plays a big part in growing up. It gives you co-ordination, confidence and it gives you a great opportunity to make friends!

How do you keep fit and healthy?
I have a strict regime when it comes to training. You will often find me in the gym. I always try to eat healthily especially the night before a match when I eat a lot of foods that give you energy like fruit and vegetables. I have never thought of keeping fit and healthy as a chore. Its a part of my everyday life now and I feel much better for it!

Who was the biggest influence on your sporting career?
My dad was a Glamorgan and England bowler like myself so he was a massive inspiration to me. Actually, my first love was football and I had trials for Leeds United football club but then I lost interest in that and started playing cricket and I loved it from day one. I turned professional when I was seventeen and I have been playing now for 8 years. I remember watching the South African bowler, Allan Donald when I was young and he has been a big inspiration throughout my career. I loved everything about him and he like my dad inspired me to play cricket.

How important do you think Dragon Sport is? What impact do you think it will have on Welsh sport?
I think its massive. Its so important to get parents and children involved in sport. It must be a fantastic feeling for them watching their children develop their skills and watching them progress. Sport is a family affair! When I was young, my mum and dad would take me everywhere - just so that I could play football or cricket - and I have a lot to thank them for. At the end of the day, these children are the stars of the future and with schemes like Dragon Sport to help them on their way, the future of Welsh sport looks very bright indeed.
